The quantity of cookbooks available are only exceeded by the number of leadership books.
Everybody who thinks they know anything about cooking or leading, publishes a book about it. I know, I’ve done both. Leaderchip Cookies is your stroke of luck. In one place, you get two for one – what a bargain.
Now let’s have some fun.
Successful cooking and successful leading have a great deal in common. Both must follow immutable laws. One, I refer to as the laws of the kitchen, the other, the laws of human behavior. In Leaderschip Cookies you’ll enjoy learning about both. If you try a few leadership recipes and the recipes of some of my favorite cookies, you’ll find that following these laws make success inevitable.
Leaderchip Cookies dissects cookie recipes and compares dissected leadership principles.
Welcome to the Leaderchip Kitchen.
In the kitchen, nothing happens until some intelligent being, and I’m being generous with the word intelligent, gathers various ingredients and combines them in such a way that together they work against the natural forces of heat, pressure, and atmospheric chemistry. Only then do those ingredients become unified into a cookie. In life, the same thing is required. Some intelligent being, again intelligent is a word I use liberally, takes various individuals combines them in such a way that together they work against the natural forces of environment, society, culture, or atrophy until a desired outcome is achieved.
I used the word intelligent being to represent the individual who has the vision of the finished outcome, whether is be a cookie or a successful event.
When referring to the goal in the kitchen, obviously a cookie is the object of the effort. In leadership, I use the word event simply to refer to the objective of the leadership effort. It might be a singular event, a specific goal with a beginning and an end. It may be a condition to be reached and maintained for extended period of time with no specific conclusion. An example of each of these might be the company Christmas party, where a leader is chosen, he or she gathers a team into a committee, the leader shares a vision, the team each takes on responsibility and the company celebrates together having a wonderful time. A much grander event might be the establishment of a new nation, where a team of exceptional thinkers get together with common interests and recruit others with various talents. They unite in sharing the vision and work together to form a more perfect union. Over time various leaders are chosen with varied talents and motives and compared to a singular event like a Christmas social, the event of the establishment of a nation continues for centuries if the leaders do not degrade into tyrants. Throughout Leaderchip Cookies, you will read about a variety of leaders and events both large and small. Mostly you will learn how foundational it is to understand how combining butter, sugar, flour, chocolate and nuts can result in an infinite variety of cookies depending on how the intelligent being (you the baker) knows the laws of the kitchen.
Oh, and by the way, you’ll see how successful leadership depends on a trillion factors coming together—but understanding and harnessing six or seven of them will get you most of the way to a successful event. We will focus on those six or seven and then garnish leadership with some tips and tricks.
